What is a Nymph

 

A nymph fly is a fly used to that imitates the underwater stage of an insect's life cycle. Nymphs one of the immature stages of some insects that begin their lives underwater before emerging as an adult. Nymph flies are designed to mimic the looks and movements of these underwater insects, and are usually fished in the subsurface layers of the water column. Nymph flies will effectivly catch a variety of fish species, including trout, bass, and panfish. They are can be used in combination with a dry fly to create a two-fly set up known as a dry-dropper. Nymph flies can be tied in many differetn sizes and colors so it matches the insects you are trying to copy.
