What is Hackle?

 

Hackle is a feather used for fly tying to create wings, legs, and tails of a fly. Hackle is usually taken from the neck or saddle of a chicken, and some can be found on other types of birds. They come in many different colors, lengths, and stiffness.  This allows a fly tyre to create different patterns and styles of flies.
